She is located on Thorofare Lookout on the far north of Henry's tower. is the supervisor of Henry, the game's protagonist. The whole game is an amazing meditation on the nature of loneliness, isolation, and the need to find some purpose.Īt the end, as Henry is begging her to wait, and (in my choice, at least) he says “come to Boulder with me.” And she says Dude, go see your wife.Delilah June A. The first time you really see another person and interact with them face to face is the final scene of as you climb onto the rescue helicopter. You only ever see the mystery man and the teen girls as distant shadows. Through it all you somehow never meet Delilah. When you find out what really happened it’s kind of banal, and while it’s tragic, it’s much simpler than the conspiracies you’ve imagined. Mysterious things keep happening and the world seems dark and threatening. You find the secret camp and wonder if the whole thing is some kind of crazy government secret experiment. You overhear Delilah taking about you to someone else and you get paranoid about it. There’s a point where you think those missing teen girls who you yelled at might be dead. So many things seem ominous as you are playing and when it ends, you realize it was about something totally different. Yes! I loved this game for just this reason. They both found themselves running from the problems of their lives, and now that they return to it, the only thing that changed is that they're just a bit more fucked up than before. Sure, it's fucked you find the mummified corpse of Brian, but after the fire burns everything away, both characters know that what they saw is never going to see the light of day. When you finally discover that everything was just born out of a bored hermit man whose son died in a freak accident, the story feels more realistic. People hate Firewatch because it doesn't offer some sort of solution, a happy ending, or having the characters grow into better and more stable people because of their experiences. I think what people miss the most is that the disappointment is THE best part. Even after replaying it so many times, I still get the chills when the music gets intense. And the idea of this only expands when you go to the site and see that there are reports on you. After finding the clipboard, it feels like you're being stalked, or maybe even hunted in the wilderness. I, as most people, had the same assumption. Throughout the entire game, everything points to "some fucked up stuff is happening." The frantic voice acting, the time of day in the game, and most of all the music lead the player to believe that they're about to uncover a devastating conspiracy. I gotta say that this is the BEST part of the ending. I think the main thing people hate is that you never meet Delilah and that the suspense is "disappointing" in the end. The one thing I never understood was how SO many people hate the ending! Like looking up the game and seeing that it didn't have the best ratings was insane to me. I watched a youtuber play it, and then I played it countless times. So, I've loved Firewatch ever since the game came out.
